| 'Adlerweg' - the eagle's route |
The eagle, symbol of freedom and independence, distance and strength, circles majestically high above the Tyrolean mountains. You’ll feel just as lofty when you discover the Adlerweg (the eagle’s route) – the new main hiking trail right through Tyrol. A look at the map makes it clear: the route symbolises the proud eagle, its wings spread over the land. The hike takes you almost on its wings, the route runs along the wing through the most beautiful areas of Tyrol. The Adlerweg running a total length of around 280 km is made up of 31 attractive stages of various lengths, times and levels. (Currently the route comprise 31 stages, extensions have already been planned.) From St. Johann in Tyrol’s lowlands over the Karwendel and Innsbruck, the route takes us up to St. Anton am Arlberg. The stages of the Adlerweg lead to the most beautiful landscapes in the most beautiful hiking areas: upland villages and ice caves, summit crucifixes and chapels, chamois and marmot, maple woods and Alpine gardens can all be seen along the way. From the Kufstein fortress through the sweet landscape in the lower Inn valley, along the Laliderer walls in the Karwendel Alpine park, on the well-know Zirbenweg (Swiss stone pine route) high above Innsbruck, through the meadow paradise of Gaistal, past the Fernstein castle along the old Roman road, through the Natura-2000 area of Lechauen and up to the ‘Grenzberg’ (the border mountain) between Tyrol and Vorarlberg and St. Anton am Arlberg. Soon there will be detailed information on the route the regions, etc.
