Lermoos-Grubigstein: Fun on the slopes for the more discerning
Opposite the Zugspitze is the Lermoos-Grubigstein ski area. It is particularly attractive because of its more demanding slopes – a hit with more experienced skiers and those who looking for some extra speed. The terrain on the Grubigstein is rich in variety – a great pleasure for skiers and gliders.

The ski area comprises 30 well prepared slopes served by 4 tow lifts, 5 chair lifts and a cable car. For youngster there are two practise lifts.

And the ski area is growing: two new slopes – the ‘Sportabfahrt’ and the Hüttenrinner’ – broaden the horizons of well-trained carvers in good condition. Even boarders come into their own: a new snowboard piste and a super freedride area have been built especially for them. At the Gamsbödele there is another 700-metre long natural pipe.

Picture: Descent right the front door

A six-seater cabin lift takes you uphill from the centre of the village. And if you’re lucky, the descent will take you back down to your front door. This is ideal if you want to hit the aprés ski after a dream day on the slopes or on a sun-bathed terrace. Lermoos is famous as the meeting point in the Zugspitz Arena for partygoers.

This is where you’ll find help to put the brakes on:

  • The sunniest spot in the whole of Tyrol’s Zugspitz Arena is the Bergrestaurant (mountain restaurant) Grubigalm: for sun worshippers there are cool drinks, snacks and music at 1,712 meters’ altitude. Schirmbar! www.grubigalm.at
  • The peak of it all! The Grubighütte is situated at 2,100 metres: closer to the sun and ‘Jagatee’.
  • At the middle station, you’ll find the Brettlalm: self-service refreshment with open-air terrance and music.
  • You’ll also find a lot going on the ‘Lahme Ente’ by the Grubigsteinbahn valley station – which thankfully does not do justice to its name: ‘lame duck’. Doors open at 1 p.m. at the ‘duck shade’ in front of the bar and from 3 p.m. in the pub itself. There’s no holding back when, in the evening, the best DJs in Tyrol’s Zugspitz Arena do their stuff.
  • Also at the Grubigsteinbahn valley station you’ll find the ‘Juxbar’. Doors open here at 3 p.m.
