Wettersteinbahn – Sonnenlifte: From ski toddler to up and coming star

On the flank of the Zugspitze – reachable with the Wettersteinbahn and the Sonnenliften – is a ski area which addresses family skiers as well as experimental boarders. Twenty kilometres of slopes and four lifts – there is a wide variety of slopes for you to choose from. Find your feet on easy to medium-difficult slopes.

You can reach the ski area using the Sonnenhang (sunny slopes!) tow lift – a name which keeps its promise. A diagonal ride takes you to the Wettersteinbahn (a three-seater chair lift) and to the Bärengrube tow lift. It is worth taking another diagonal lift: the blue slope at the Gamskarflit is a super carving slope. Boarders are to be found in large numbers around the snowboard area – the halfpipe measures an impressive 120 metres.

The children are always in view

Right at the bottom in Ehrwald is the area reserved for tomorrow’s ski stars – at the training tow lift, at the ‘Wanda Panda’ lift and on the ‘Eggi Schneggi magic carpet. This is were you’ll find the stars of tomorrow making enormous progress from day to day. In total, the ski area, from the valley station right up to the mountain station, is a good, manageable size and ideal for parents who don’t want to loses sight of their little ones. The Tiroler Skiscool and the Skiscool Total both offer ski kindergartens with supervision and lunch.

This is where you’ll find help to put the brakes on:

  • Only a few ambitious skiers actually manage to ski past the Gamsalm. This homely new hut can be found direct on the carving slope. Good Tyrolean cuisine. The meeting place for aprés-ski.
  • The Sonnenhang Café is situated directly on the ski slope and lures you with its wonderfully large sunny terrace. On Sunday, there is live mucis and aprés ski every day. And if you spend too long partying you can also rent an apartment.
  • At the bottom of the three-seater lift, the Gasthof Panorama is a big draw for skiers – to lie in the sun and to take in aprés ski in the madhouse.
