The mountain lifts in the Zugspitz Arena operate – with occasional interruptions in the so-called transfer time – nearly the whole year round. In summer they take the hikers, those who love beautiful panaoramas and mountain bikers to the tops. Many want to save the steep climb through the trees and to take to the tops when they get beyond the treeline.
Even during the ride up the lift you’ll be able to enjoy wonderful views across blossoming upland meadows, idyllic hidden mountain lakes and sweating hikers who have decided to take the uncomfortable route. And if you look closely, you’ll be able to see red deer and mushrooms in the undergrowth. The experience at the top is the crowning of the ride.
Here’s a brief overview of the summer lifts.

TIROLER ZUGSPITZBAHN: Take the ‘sky rider’, the modern panorama lift on the Tyrol side of the mountain, quickly and quietly to the top of Germany’s highest mountain – of course, this is also suitable for the disabled. You will experience a simply wonderful view of the valley basin of Ehrwald, Lermoos and Biberwier, of the Eibsee and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria. If the view is good you can see as far as Piz Bernina in the Swiss Alps and the Grossglockner summit in the Hohen Tauern national park in the eastern Alps.
A highlight at the summit is certainly the ‘Faszination Zugspite – Erlebniswelt’ the Zugspitze discovery zone, with all the best views (new from summer 2005). Here you can experience the Zugspitze in all its variety – even when it’s cloudy, when it’s snowing or when there’s a storm. You conquer the summit, there are displays of views and impressions and there is a truly spectacular multimedia show. On top of this, the Zugspitze is presented in a 3D video and with various exhibition items, such as a relief model of the Wetterstein massif and in many historical images.
