Zugspitze

2.962 above sea level

The Zugspitze, a rock massif in a class of its own. Towering over Ehrwald as the peak of the Wetterstein mountain range, it awakens mountaineers' dreams with its rugged rock faces that tower into the sky. The first ascent took place on August 27th, 1820 by Josef Naus, Johann Georg Tauschl and the assistant Maier. Since then, the Zugspitze has hardly been alone for a single day; it is a real crowd puller with its many paths to the summit. Incidentally, 400 other Alpine peaks in six countries can be admired from here.

Sonnenspitze

2.417 above sea level

The Matterhorn of Tyrol and part of the Mieminger Kette. Pointed and angular and absolutely impressive, the rock pyramid towers above the Ehrwald, Lermoos and Biberwier basin. Despite its lower height, the Sonnenspitze has often been mistakenly referred to as the Zugspitze due to its imposing silhouette.
